Baja California Governor Successfully Urges Tax Reform Analysis
10.11.13Last Tuesday, the Governor of Baja California, Francisco Vega, met with the Mexican Finance Minster, Luis Videgaray, and a number of other federal and independent business representatives. During the meeting, preliminary economic analysis’ were presented representing the negative impact on the state of Baja California should the reforms become law.
As a result, Videgaray instructed his staff to immediately commence an in-depth study of the proposed reforms and their projected effect on the border regions in particular. He also agreed in principle with the need for revisions to the initial proposal. All of this information will then be sent to the legislation for consideration.
The following day, Governor Vega chaired meetings in the ongoing effort to further discussions between federal officials and business and industry groups on the tax reform issue. No deadline was given for the completion of the fiscal analysis.
