In opening up a facility in Mexico, GKN Composites was leveraging the success of the existing GKN Aerospace operation that was established in the area in 2002. That facility had already proven that high quality production at a competitive cost is a benefit of operating in Mexico. As well, GKN had identified that Mexico is a strategically important country to support US customers both in the short and long term.
In 2011, a competitive review was conducted between three established shelter companies. Following the comprehensive, review process that included such items as fee structure, industry experience, project management, systems and reporting, and more, GKN chose IVEMSA. Stated Loren Engel, General Manager, “After an objective evaluation, IVEMSA was simply the best value. And not only is IVEMSA well established and connected, we were also very impressed with the professionalism and transparency with which they do business.”
Supported by ongoing experience, GKN is confident that they can find the staff, both engineers and unskilled labor, that they need in Mexico to be successful. Their labor team has grown from 32 in 2013 to 121 as of August 2015.
